If you are like me, you have several padlocks in use at the cottage. You’ve probably got a padlock on your small outboard motor, another chaining the boat or boats to a tree, padlocks on sheds and outbuildings etc.
If you have three or more padlocks that means you have three or four different keys and you probably have the wrong key in your hand when you try to unlock something.
One of the most convenient changes I have made at the cottage was to introduce “keyed alike” padlocks. That relatively inexpensive changeover saves me a lot of hassle sorting out which key for which padlock and saves me endless trips back inside the camp to get the right key.
You can buy multiple padlocks in packages that work with the same key, that means you only need one key on your keyring to unlock the sheds, outhouse, boats, etc.
For example, here is a three pack of keyed alike padlocks:Master Lock 311TRI Keyed Alike Laminated Steel Padlock , 3-Pack
These padlocks feature a high-tech thermoplastic shell that is designed to withstand the elements, a hardened steel shackle, and a matching colored keyhead for added convenience.
1-9/16″ (40mm) wide laminated steel body.
The next set of keyed alike padlocks feature a 4-pin cylinder that helps prevent picking,
a hardened boron alloy shackle for superior cut resistance, dual locking levers that provide extra pry resistance as well as proprietary rustproofing for longer life.
These are the Master Lock 5TRILFPF Keyed-Alike Wide Laminated Pin Tumbler Padlocks, 2-Inch, 3-Pack
There are lots of keyed alike padlocks to choose from, inexpensive to very expensive, and they are available in various sizes.
