Cottage Water Systems
The next book on our cottage reading and reference book list is a personal favorite and one we are offering as a prize in our current Cottage Chronicles Contest. This handy cottage reference book is all about your water systems, plumbing, including water pumps, septic systems and lots more useful information for cottage and camp owners. This is one of those books that I feel is indispensible around the camp, particularly useful to new cottage owners who are in the process of learning about how their cottage water systems work. This book has an exceptionally long title, it’s called: Country and Cottage Water Systems: A Complete Out-of-the-City Guide to On-Site Water and Sewage Systems, Including Pumps, Plumbing, Water Purification and Alternative Toilets
You can never have too many books around the cottage, whether they are for rainy day reading or finding new ideas for cottagers learning how to do it yourself around the camp. The camp ‘library’ also becomes a favorite place for visitors to the camp to browse the books and often choose one to read as they become immersed in the wonderful life of going to the camp. This book by Wayne Lennox covers the essentials, hence the title:Cottage Essentials: The Everything Guide for Your Cottage, Cabin or Camp This book includes all kinds of useful information including:
First Aid, dealing with bears and other wildlife – Chainsaws and tree felling – Firewood, wood fires, wood-heating appliances – Operation and maintenance of oil lamps – Tools and how to build and maintain a deck, dock, woodshed and outhouse – Basic plumbing – Activities for children – Closing-up for the season – Glossary of common construction terms. It even has some recipes!! This is a must have cottage book.
At The Cottage and Still At The Cottage
Not so much a reference book as it is just a great cottage read, is this great read from Charles Gordon,
Still at the Cottage: Or the Cabin, the Shack, the Lake, the Beach, or Camp a humorous entertaining look at present day cottage living. This is the second of Gordon’s books about cottages, the first book, At the Cottage
was and continues to be a popular favorite.
So there you go, a few good books for the camp or cottage or a nice read on a winter’s night, when all you can do is dream about the coming summer at the lake!!
