I’m always fascinated by the loons on our lake. They are always a presence thankfully, as no northern lake is complete without a few loons, especially when they call their long lonesome calls in the night.
In this case, we have a family of loons, the young ones born this year in the spring, and now they are almost fully grown and travel with their parents in the hunt for fish.
Following Hurricane Earl I watched them swimming across the lake toward our place, swimming in a line 7 or 8 of them, until they must have hit upon a school of fish. At that point they went crazy…..like loons….loony I guess you might say, and started calling and diving and swimming quickly across the surface of the lake, I assume chasing a school of fish.
Make sure you turn your speakers on, the sound is pretty good.
