Weekend Ramblings

The long weekend in May….the start of summer….and it rains and rains….I hope this is not a ‘harbinger’ of what is to come, another wet summer. I like a little rain as much as the next guy, but I also enjoy a little sunshine and warm days too, especially at the cottage.

Wendy and I and a couple of friends headed to the camp last night after supper. We didn’t go earlier because we all had home commitments, mostly in the form of work around the house, which needed to be done. It’s one of the downfalls of a cottage, you have two places to upkeep. Doing the actual upkeep is not necessarily the issue, it’s more a case of finding the time to do the upkeep. It’s not always easy to balance family, work and property maintenance at the same time, and when you throw in some rain, that reduces your time.

The weekend wasn’t without some constructive time though, my buddy and I got the cottage measured up for some siding. Just can’t decide what kind of siding yet, although it will probably end up to be vinyl siding because it is ultimately the least expensive, the easiest to put on, and finally, no need for much ‘upkeep’.

Wendy and I haven’t decided what we are going to do to the place yet, anyway, whether we will renovate it to allow year round use, build another one, or just leave things as they are and keep it as weekend place.

I’m on two minds, but as the time comes closer, moving to the cottage doesn’t seem quite as attractive an option as it used to, I’m not sure why.

It was nice to go to sleep last night with the sound of the rain on the roof, the frogs chirping in the swamp and the loons calling on the lake….gotta appreciate that.

I almost forgot, the beaver is still hanging around, he has another branch off the group of maples off and he is peeling it right on the shoreline. I am not sure where he is taking this stuff, but judging by the speed he is working, it could be a long time before he is finished. I am not sure he is living up to the ‘busy as a beaver’ slogan….

  1. Rob – I’m surprised you wouldn’t want to move to your cabin – especially being by that lovely lake! :-0
