Did You Get To The Camp?

Sunday night….home from the camp….that sucks. We had a beautiful weekend at the camp. The weather cooperated, giving us two sunny days, cool, but pleasant for working around our little country cabin.

This was the indoor spring cleaning weekend, my wife was hard at it, dusting, wiping, vacuuming, sweeping, you name it, she cleaned it. Pretty nearly cleaned my clock when she found me wandering around the yard, just ‘looking at stuff’ It wasn’t long before I had a broom in my hand too.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, we had ‘scrounged an L shaped couch from our friends, who were kind enough to deliver it on Saturday. They stayed all night, making for an even more fun weekend. The new couch is big, bigger than what we had, and it changes the look of our cottage interior somewhat, but I think for the better. It has the added advantage of a pull-out bed, so if you happen to drop by, we have room for ya!

Winter has not quite left us here in the “North Country” (I always wanted to say that) as we had some snow flurries today, that thankfully didn’t amount to anything or last, but snow just the same.

This morning when I got up, I turned on the kitchen tap, no water…uh-oh…but it was only ice in the hose going to the lake.

Astutely figuring that out, I went outside and gave the hose a couple of good shakes and presto! We had water. Must have froze up a little overnight. Hopefully that will be the last time I have to worry about that this year, warmer temperatures must be coming….surely…

The lake is still high, but dropped quite a bit since last weekend, and now I can see the damage that high water and ice did to my shoreline and boat launch. Looks like I have some work to do there, but all things in good time.

There were a few boats on the lake, trout fishing is open, but not many considering it was such a nice day. Perhaps a little too cold yet. I hope to be one of those boats in the very near future.

How was your weekend? Did you get to the camp?

  1. The road to our camp is still not passable. We usually aim for mid-May. It is a privately maintained road and is basically woods dirt, we all know how that stuff is in the spring! My daughter keeps our camp in order now,… I show up a couple times a year for picnics. It’s their generation’s turn… and i love it. I know that the previous generation is watching from above and approving!

  2. Congrats on the new couch! It’s fun getting new things for the camp! 99% of our snow is gone – it was in the 60’s the past week at the cabin.

  3. Went up two weeks ago. Tons of ice still on our lake (east of Bracebridge). I watch a few resort webcams in the area and it looks like things are starting to break up a bit.

This past weekend, my wife and I went down to Niagara (anniverary). It’s like another weather zone down there, all dafodils, blossoms and green grass.

Can’t be far off for the rest of us! They’re predicting 74+ degrees on Saturday in Ontario, so that should do it.

re: Cedar, our road was mush three weekends ago… and firmed up again by the cold two weekends ago. It’s going to need some work, but who can resist?!

  4. We did get to the camp! It was dry and warm enough that with a few passes of the Subaru were able to beat down the ruts in the lane and didn’t even have to worry about heat except for the old electric blanket on the bed (thanks Aunt Jean) ahh happy days are here again!
