The Weekend At The Cottage

Just got home from the cottage…oh my…I am more tired than when I left on Friday night…Ha…I dunno if it was working on the wharf, fishing, trying to get the old tecumseh lawn mower to work or what but I am one tired puppy. It might also have something to do with the heat and a little too much party on Saturday night….ahem…but we will leave that alone….

When it comes to lawn mowers I am beginning to wonder if the saying ‘they don’t make them like they used to’ is somehow true. I have a Tecumseh lawn mower that I pulled on and pulled on for hours and couldn’t get it started. Then I took it apart and did all the ‘small engine troubleshooting’ things and still no go…finally I managed to break the bolt off that holds the carbuerator bowl on, which meant it really won’t go now…perhaps never….

So in desperation I dug out the old Simpsons Sears lawn mower, actually I think it just says “Simpsons” on it, but it is a Briggs and Stratton engine. This one came from my Father’s Aunt, who died about 20 years ago, and it was old then. She had a large country property and a lot of grass. When she died, my Dad enherited the lawn mower which of course went to the camp. Well, the handle broke years ago and was replaced with an old handle from another mower, and the body is pretty rough, but it started on the 3rd pull….not bad considering the spark plug in it is from an outboard motor….

So the grass was cut finally and I was able to rest easy…for about ten minutes. Then I had to get under the camp and fix a leak in a water pipe. That was just before I dug up the ant hill on the front lawn and sprayed it….right after I fixed the hummingbird feeder which had come apart at the bottom much to the chagrin of the hummingbirds.

So it was a pretty restful weekend….

On the other hand, I did get a couple of hours fishing in at the above location…that made it all OK….
